What made Yona Wallach’s poetry so powerful? To what extent did David Avidan shape and change the face of Israeli culture? During the course “The Subconscious Opens Like a Fan”, we will read and write following the poems of two of the most powerful and revolutionary forces in new Israeli poetry: Yona Wallach and David Avidan.

We will get to know Wallach’s enchanted wonderland, the tension between madness, feminism, and sexuality, as well as the foundation of the fierce revolt in the poem of Avidan, a poet who, already at the age of 20, wrote the eternal lines “Old man, what has he got in his life?”. Through reading together, we will increase our familiarity with the world of Israeli poetry and enhance our own creativity.
