Holocaust through “Violins of Hope” Adults

Join us and together with Anat Sadan and Susanne M Reyto, Author and Chairman of Violins of Hope Los Angeles County to experience the history of the Holocaust through the language of music. Learning how the treatment and suffering of the violins relate to the human experiences during the Holocaust. The restored violins represent the endurance of the human spirit and survival.

In each class we will learn about a different violin and how their story relates to the history of the Jewish people. We will also emphasize the importance of the violin, the music and composers and their influence on daily life.

Session 1 – Intro to the Violins of Hope Project, Jewish life before the Holocaust and Motele’s Violin.

Session 2 – The story of Bronislaw Huberman’s violin and the rescue of Jews during the Holocaust, the establishment of the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra.

Session 3 – The Bielski Violin and what is Partisans and their story of survival and fight the Nazis.

Session 4 – The Erich Weininger violin and escape from Nazi occupation, Illegal emigration to Palestine and the use of violins in Nazi camps.

Session 5 – The Morpurgo violin: a refugee violin and the power of music, the aftermath of the Holocaust and the importance of the state of Israel.
